Wandering in the Weekend Market in Bangkok in the fall of 2000, I found booths with Star Wars figures adjacent to painstakingly batiked Thai silk, Sesame Street T-shirts next to delicate traditional pastries, contemporary steel silverware in the same aisle as antique brass daggers.
